A wheat flour processing plant transforms raw wheat grains into flour through a multi-step industrial process. It involves rigorous cleaning, tempering, gradual roller milling, and sifting. Setting up a commercial plant requires about 1 to 1.25 acres of land, ₹50 lakh to ₹2 crore in machinery, and consumes between 400 kW to 800 kW of power.
The Wheat Milling Process
The conversion of wheat to flour follows a strict, sequential pipeline to ensure high yield, purity, and food safety.
Cleaning & Destoning: Raw wheat is fed into elevators where air currents (aspirators), magnets, and vibrating screens remove dust, straw, and ferrous metals. Gravity tables and destoners separate pebbles and heavy impurities.
Tempering (Conditioning): Grains are exposed to precise amounts of moisture. This toughens the outer bran layer and softens the inner starchy endosperm, ensuring clean separation during milling.
Milling (Roller Mills): Tempered wheat passes through a series of counter-rotating fluted rollers. Instead of smashing everything at once, the rollers gently crack the grain to release the endosperm
